PHL Embassy in Bangladesh Meets with Filipino Community Leaders in Sri Lanka

Filipino leaders in Sri Lanka met with Dhaka PE’s Third Secretary and Vice-Consul Ms. LV de Guzman (seated, second from left), and Philippine Honorary Consul in Sri Lanka Mr. Hugh Sriyal Dissanayake (seated, third from left). 11 April 2018 DHAKA — The Philippine Embassy in Dhaka, Bangladesh, represented by Third Secretary Ms. LV de Guzman, met with Filipino Community leaders in Colombo, Sri Lanka at the Global Towers Hotel in Colombo on March 17 to discuss collaborations on information campaigns, outreach missions, and possible collaborative projects promoting Philippine culture in Sri Lanka.

The Office of the Philippine Honorary Consul in Sri Lanka was represented by Honorary Consul Hugh Sriyal Dissanayake, who expressed his appreciation for the Filipino Community’s responsiveness to invitations for cooperation and coordination from the OPHC.

The Filipino Community was represented by the Association of Filipinos in Sri Lanka or AFSRIL led by its President Josephine S. Poole and the Philippine Ladies Association or PLA led by its President Aileen Arellano-de Sylva. Officers of both AFSRIL and PLA actively participated in the meeting, where the Filipino leaders gave positive feedback on the recent mobile consular drive of Dhaka PE and shared constructive recommendations on how to further improve the Embassy’s services during outreach missions in Sri Lanka, which the Embassy appreciated and welcomed.

Among the Filipino Community leaders who also joined the meeting were Jocelyn J.B. Srikantha, Virginia H. Perera, Lyn S. Jayawardena, Lulu Hilmy, Gina Chavenia, Janet Hapitan, William Seno, Alona Liyanage, and Grace Shaheibu. END

The meeting was held as part of the Embassy’s Assistance-to-National (ATN) activities for 2018, in support of the Department’s targets and goals in relation to the DFA’s ATN program. END
