PHL Consulate General, POLO-OWWA in Jeddah Repatriate OFW Who Jumped from House’s 2nd Floor to Escape Abusive Employer

12 April 2018 JEDDAH – The Philippine Consulate General and POLO-OWWA in Jeddah repatriated on April 09 a female household service worker who suffered back injuries after jumping from the second floor of the house of her abusive employer. The worker broke her spinal cord and was treated at the King Abdulaziz Medical Complex. She was admitted temporarily at the Bahay Kalinga (BK) of the Consulate General after her operation.
Eleven (11) other female wards of the BK, who also suffered abuses from their employers, were repatriated on the same day. The Consulate General, through the POLO-OWWA office in Jeddah, negotiated with Saudi authorities, recruitment agencies and the employers for the exit visas and tickets of the workers. POLO/OWWA, through Welfare Officer Yolanda Peñaranda and Administrative Staff Juvelyn Idul, also provided airport assistance to the workers. END
