12 April 2018 KRASNOYARSK – Following the signing of separate framework cooperation agreements with the Federal Siberian Research Clinical Center in August 2017, physicians from the nuclear medicine departments of the National Kidney and Transplant Institute (NKTI), Rizal Medical Center (RMC) and Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center (JRMMC) traveled to the Siberian city of Krasnoyarsk in the Russian Federation to develop an action plan for continuing exchanges.
On 9 April, Dr. Angelo Martinez of NKTI, Dr. Marcelino Tanquilut of JRMMC and Dr. Arnold Isidro of RMC undertook a working tour of the nuclear medicine facilities of the FSRCC, one of the leading institutions of its kind in Russia. They were joined by Third Secretary Jeffrey Valdez, Head of the Economic Section of the Philippine Embassy in Moscow, Russia.
The Filipino doctors observed an actual procedure in the handling of radioactive isotopes and its use for diagnosis and treatment of various diseases. After the working tour, representatives of both sides exchanged technical presentations on topics such as myocardial perfusion imaging, radionuclide imaging and therapy of prostate cancer, and SPECT/CT and PET/CT imaging.
“The capabilities of FSRCC are on par with institutions from Western countries. We
were particularly impressed with their systems for mitigating the risk of exposure to radioactive material,” said Dr. Angelo Martinez, Head of Nuclear Medicine at the NKTI.
On 10 April, the Filipino and Russian physicians worked on finalizing the list of proposed joint activities for the next years to ensure that cooperation will continue. END
