NAIROBI 25 April 2018 – The Philippine Embassy in Nairobi, Kenya supported the project initiated by Mr. Rolando Villamero,Jr., a board member of the Filipino Community in Kenya, Expert on Mission on Inclusive Education of UNICEF Kenya-Special Olympics Kenya  and co-founder and Vice President of Global Observatory for Inclusion (GLOBI) for the disabled children. The event, “Magdula Ta: Inclusive Games for Children with or without Disabilities” was held on 10 March 2018 at the Embassy grounds.

Ambassador to Kenya Uriel Norman R. Garibay welcomed and thank everyone for their presence and their active participation of the event. In his remarks, he said, “The Embassy promotes inclusion, regardless who you are, where you came from, you have the right to be included in the society.” He added, “Each one of us has the responsibility to create an inclusive environment where people with physical and intellectual disability thrive alongside their peers without disabilities.”

The event was participated in by around 35 children with or without disabilities, aimed at fostering inclusion and understanding through the use of games and sports. Children of Filipino community members also joined in the activities. This provided opportunities for children with disabilities to experience new activities in a relaxed and fun environment.  It was also designed to help bridge the gap between the children with disabilities and the community.

This was preceded by the #DrawDisability workshop which was also supported by the Embassy last December 2017. END
