Ambassador Santos Presents Credentials as Philippine Non-Resident Ambassador to the Republic of Uzbekistan

Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov congratulates Philippine Non-resident AEP Santos after accepting his Letters of Credence signed by President Rodrigo R. Duterte

TASHKENT 25 April 2018 — Philippine Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Iran Mr. Wilfredo C. Santos presented his Letters of Credence on 19 April before Uzbekistan Foreign Minister H.E. Abdulaziz Kamilov in a brief ceremony at the Uzbekistan Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Accepting his diplomatic credentials, Foreign Minister Kamilov congratulated Ambassador Santos on his appointment as the Philippine non-resident ambassador to Uzbekistan and spoke about the need to strengthen Philippines-Uzbekistan bilateral cooperation. He further emphasized Uzbekistan’s current foreign policy priorities, focusing on peace and regional stability. Ambassador Santos took the opportunity to outline recent developments in Philippine economic thrusts with the hope of further expansion of trade and agriculture prospects for the Philippines with Uzbekistan.

The Philippines established diplomatic relations with Uzbekistan on 13 Apr 1992 a few months after the Central Asian sovereign state declared independence from the former Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR). Both sides acknowledged the importance of invigorating trade and business development through meaningful exchanges that produce tangible outcomes. END
