Fiesta Nights, Filipino Style in Khartoum, Sudan

CAIRO 30 April 2018 – The Al Salam Rotana Hotel in Khartoum, Sudan, hosted the third Philippine Food Festival in Khartoum with the theme, “Fiesta Nights, Filipino Style,” at the hotel’s Al Nuba Restaurant from 22 to 26 April.
The Filipino community, as well diplomats and other expatriates, attended the opening night on 22 April. Mr. Jose A. Cabrera III, Minister and Consul General, delivered the opening remarks. Mr. Joseph Jerome Tupaz and Ms. Mary Ann Faith Dancel, who were flown in from Manila for the event, performed from a repertoire of popular Filipino music.
The event was organized by Ms. Maria Cristina Sulaik, Marketing and Communications Manager of Al Salam Rotana Hotel in cooperation with the Philippine Embassy in Cairo, Egypt and the Philippine Honorary Consulate in Sudan.
Chef Suharto “Bong” Sulaik and Chef Emma Sulaik, a husband and wife team, also flew in from the Philippines to showcase their skills in preparing the best of traditional Filipino cuisine, including specialties from various regions in the Philippines.
Ms. Terrence Gan Lalunio, Ms. Stephanie Hasbi and Ms. Cassandra Faye Garcia, who are members of the Filipino community in Khartoum, performed the “Malong” dance, a traditional Philippine folk dance, during the opening night much to the delight of the attendees.
Before the opening of the event, Mr. Cabrera also guested at Capital 91.6 FM, an English-language radio station in Khartoum popular with expatriates, to brief background about the event and the Philippines. END
