Products, Food, Arnis, All Hits in Buenos Aires ASEAN Bazaar

BUENOS AIRES April 30 2018 — The Philippine Embassy in Buenos Aires, together with the Embassies of Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam, successfully spearheaded the first ASEAN Bazaar in Buenos Aires on 21 April 2018, where the diverse cultures and cuisines of the region were on full display.

The three (3) booths of the Philippines were among the busiest, selling native products and delicacies. Embassy officials were on hand to provide information on Philippine tourism and trade to eager visitors wishing to learn more about the Philippines.

Philippine participation in the ASEAN Bazaar was marked by strong support from the Filipino community in Buenos Aires. Castora “Nanay Toray” Mendoza, 80, among the first Filipinos to move to Argentina, and other Filipino community members lent support to the Philippine booth.

Philippine cuisine received great buzz from event-goers, particularly as these were made fresh by Chef Sunae who is making a name for herself among the hip crowd of Buenos Aires for authentic Filipino food. Filipino community leaders sold traditional desserts.

In the afternoon, the Philippine Arnis demonstration given by Mr. Gustavo Albertti of Kombatan Argentina, a local Filipino martial arts school, was among the most well-received, impressing audience with its art and grace using only bamboo sticks.

The ASEAN Bazaar is the first of many activities by ASEAN Embassies in Buenos Aires with the aim of bringing greater knowledge of Southeast Asia to the Argentine public.

An estimated 2000 people attended the event, which included Ambassadors, officials of the Argentine foreign ministry and other government agencies, tour operators, members of the academe, university students, and members of the tight-knit Southeast Asian communities in Buenos Aires. END
