Consul General, FASGI Commemorate Anniversary of PH WWII Defense

LOS ANGELES 05 May 2018 – Philippine Consul General Adelio Angelito S. Cruz led the ribbon cutting ceremony during the launch of the month-long historical exhibit of World War (WW) II Memorabilia, dubbed WWII Legacy of Valor on 24 April.

The exhibit was organized by the Filipino American Service Group, Inc. (FASGI) in commemoration of the 76th Anniversary of the Defense of the Philippines in WW II and in honor of the United States Army Forces in the Far East (USAFFE), the valiant Filipino and American soldiers who fought against the invasion of the Japanese Imperial Forces.

FASGI is a non-profit, neighborhood-based direct service provider. Incorporated in 1981, FASGI has grown to be one of the leading independent health and social service provider for low-income and underserved residents of Los Angeles. 

For over two decades, FASGI’s various programs have helped thousands of individuals through the support of federal, state, county and city funds. Many private foundations, corporations, community organizations and individual donors have generously supported the organization's mission to provide quality life for all.

About 50 guests, which included WWII Veterans, friends from the media and members of the Filipino-American community in the Los Angeles region attended the launch held at the FASGI Bayanihan Center in Park View Street, Los Angeles. California. A Representative from the Office of Congressman Jimmy Gomez, Mr. Steven Chow, also attended the event.

The exhibit features actual field equipment, uniforms, memorabilia, weaponry, posters, pictures, films and/or documentaries, and books about WWII, given on loan from the personal collections of Mr. Gil Mislang, Board Director of FASGI and member of the Philippine Scouts Heritage Society (PSHS) Lt. Alexander Nininger Chapter.

In his remarks, Consul General Adelio Cruz honored Filipino WWII veterans for their valor and sacrifice, which paved the way for the liberation of Manila in 1945. He also expressed his appreciation to FASGI for putting up the Exhibit to honor the memory of these gallant men who gave so much for the cause of our freedom.
