PH Ambassador Presents Credentials to the President of the Democratic Republic of Sao Tome and Principe

SÃO TOMÉ 04 May 2018 - Philippine Ambassador Celia Anna M. Feria presented her Letter of Credence to President Ernesto Carvalho of the Democratic Republic of São Tomé and Principe in a ceremony held at the Palacio Nacional in the capital city on 19 April.

The ceremony began with the traditional review of the Presidential Honor Guard at the grounds of Palacio Nacional. This was followed by a meeting with President Carvalho, where Ambassador Feria conveyed the best wishes of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte for his personal well-being and for the prosperity of the people of Democratic Republic of São Tomé and Principe. 

Earlier during the day, Ambassador Feria met with Foreign Minister Urbino Botelho at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Communities (MNECC) to present her open letters and discussed the possibility of developing technical cooperation projects especially in the areas of tourism, agriculture, aquaculture and livelihood skills.

After the presentation of credentials, Ambassador Feria met with Prime Minister Patrice Travoada of the Republic of São Tomé e Principe.  Prime Minister Travoada expressed interest in collaborating with the Philippines through the development of technical cooperation programs as part of Philippine-São and Prinicipe bilateral relations especially on technical cooperation initiatives.

The following day, Ambassador Feria met with the Mayor Ekeneidi Lima dos Santos of the City of São Tomé and the District of Agua Grande.  During their meeting, Mayor dos Santos noted the valuable contributions of the small Filipino community in his city.

Ambassador Feria also had the opportunity to meet with the Filipino community to get an overall perspective on their current situation, issues and concerns.

The two countries established diplomatic relations on 08 November 2000. END
