PH Participants Graduate from Advanced Security Cooperation Course

HONOLULU 08 May 2018 — Six Philippine participants from the military and civilian agencies in the Philippines graduated today from the Daniel K. Inouye- Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies (DKI-APCSS) Advanced Security Cooperation Course (ASC) 18-1.

The six participants are: Maj. Van Donald Almonte, Philippine Air Force (PAF), Assistant Chief, Plans & Programs, Office Department of National Defense (DND); Mr. Irving Doloso Fajardo, Director, Administrative Services Department, DND; Ms. Analyn De Leon Ratonel, Acting Director, Office of American Affairs, Department of Foreign Affairs; Col. Arturo Go. Rojas, Marines, Director, Center for Naval Leadership & Excellence, DND; Clarissa Escolano Rutor-Garcio, National Security Council and Col. Hernanie Sondia Songan, Marines, Deputy Commander, Naval Forces Western Mindanao.

The ASC is a five-week course designed for mid-career and senior level practitioners from across the Indo-Pacific Region. The course will “enhance the capability of Fellows in the areas of critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and decision-making undertaken in complex and culturally-diverse environments,” according to the course brief.

The Filipino participants said that they had a productive time interacting with more than 100 of their peers from 38 different countries. The special guest speaker was Lieutenant General D. Daava of Mongolia.

After the ceremonies, the Philippine participants and Consul Roberto T. Bernardo as well as Liaison Officer to Pacific Command Col. Joseph Archog, PAF, exchanged pleasantries with APCSS Director Peter A. Gumataotao, Dean of APCSS Carleton Cramer, and Dr. Virgina Bacay Watson, a Filipino member of the APCSS faculty. END
