Bikol Society in Austria Holds Philippinische Kennenlernen Tag

VIENNA BSA 1

First Secretary and Consul Leilani S. Feliciano presents certificates of appreciation to the young members of the community for their involvement in the promotion of the "Introduction-to-the Philippines Day."

VIENNA 08 May 2018 – The Bikol Society Austria (BSA) held a Philippinische Kennenlernen Tag, which the group started last year. The objectives of the program, aside from touching base with their members, are to promote the culture of the Bicol region to non traditional audiences and for its second and third generation Filipino-Austrian members to advocate the use of the region’s language. BSA also used the event as a platform to raise funds to give to charity.

The program started with a mass which was celebrated in Bikolano language, followed by a spread which featured the region’s finest culinary fares, and performances which highlighted the talent and creativity of the association’s members.

First Secretary and Consul Leilani S. Feliciano applauded the efforts of the group for its advocacy and reiterated the importance of preserving the Philippine culture and heritage, even as most have managed to make a life outside the country. She also commended the program for showcasing the ingenuity, talent and culture of the Bikolanos, and assured the group of the Embassy’s commitment to support its endeavors of the same nature.  Third Secretary and Vice Consul Patricia Milla, a fellow Bikolana like Consul Feliciano, was also on hand to support the event.
