PRETORIA 10 May 2018 – The Philippine Embassy in Pretoria, South Africa hosted a successful Santacruzan, organized and participated by the Filipino Community, held last 05 May. It was the first ever held in South Africa.

The festival, commemorating the founding of the True Cross by St. Helena, was celebrated with color and beauty by the Filipino community. A gorgeous array of lovely ladies attired with the most sumptuous Filipiniana dresses, and escorted by dashing young men, represented the various aspects of the Virgin Mary. A bevy of cute little angels, immaculate on their white dresses and charming little wings, accompanied the procession. A Holy Mass was celebrated by Fr. Lazarus and Fr. Deckson. Light refreshments capped a night full of beauty, camaraderie, and good cheer.

Philippine Ambassador Joseph Gerard B. Angeles congratulated the Filipino community for a most wonderful celebration and emphasized that it is in the commemoration of these rituals and traditions that we reaffirm our identity as Filipinos, a bond with our motherland which would never be sundered by time and distance.
