PH Bestows Legion of Honor to Mexican WWII Veteran

MEXICO 10 May 2018 – Philippine Ambassador to Mexico Eduardo Jose A. de Vega bestowed the Philippine Legion of Honor unit citation award on Corporal Ernesto Martinez Trujillo, 96 years old and one of the surviving veterans of the Mexican Air Force Squadron 201, known as the “Aztec Eagles”. The Squadron 201 members were part of the Allied Expeditionary Force which fought for the liberation of the Philippines towards the end of the Second World War in 1945. The Squadron’s campaign in the Philippines remains Mexico’s first and only overseas military engagement to date. The Philippine Legion of Honor, rank of Legionnaire, was bestowed upon the members of Squadron 201 as a unit award in 2004, by order of Philippine President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
