Consulate General Receives Miriam College Delegates to Model UN

SAN FRANCISCO 10 May 2018 – The Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco receives 15 third-year Miriam College students, accompanied by their International Studies Department Faculty Adviser, Ms. Charity B. Durano, on 20 April in conjunction with their participation in the 68th Session of the Model United Nations of the Far West (MUNFW), a United Nations simulation program held annually in the Bay Area. For 20 years, the school has been sending delegations to MUNFW, and in years past, had earned a Diplomatic Achievement Award and been invited to speak at the Opening Plenary Session at the said event.

Consul General Henry S. Bensurto, Jr. welcomes the students to San Francisco and the Philippine Center. He shares his experience as a Model United Nations delegate and tips on how to propose a resolution. He advices the students to love one’s country which, he said, “will give meaning and a sense of purpose to one’s actions.” He also took the opportunity to show the students the Consulate’s movement Spark*Connect*Empower*, to encourage them to be curious, and to be proud of their heritage and culture, and to reach out to Filipinos in the diaspora.
