LISBON 10 May 2018 – As part of the Philippine Embassy in Lisbon’s efforts in promoting mutual understanding and building people-to-people diplomacy, the Embassy invited neighboring offices to an exclusive viewing of the Hibla ng Lahing Filipino Travelling Exhibition on 26 April.
This expanded people-to-people diplomacy initiative through the Exhibition complements the Embassy’s activities to reach out to the Portuguese people by sharing the cultural heritage of the Philippines around its clothing culture. The Exhibition reflects the creativity and ingenuity of Filipino workmanship.
Philippine Ambassador to Portugal Celia Anna M. Feria welcomed the guests and guided them to the various exhibits being displayed. Ambassador Feria explained to the guests that the piña fiber is often combined with other fibers to create intricate and translucent textiles that are a part of the Philippine national identity.
Ambassador Feria added that the Piña fiber is carefully woven by Philippine weavers and embroiderers who have combined age-old Filipino weaving techniques with European hand-embroidery traditions.
The guests appreciated to see how the old Asian culture of the Philippines has been retained and clearly seen in the way of life, beliefs and customs of the Filipino people.
Guests were served with traditional Filipino food for cocktails.
The Exhibition was launched on 28 March and will run until 14 May. END
