Philippine Ambassador to France Maria Theresa P. Lazaro and Consul General Aileen Mendiola-Rau show their support during the fourth monthly session of the Embassy-organized Philippine culture and history classes held in Paris’ 16th on 22 April 2018.

PARIS 10 May 2018 - Recognizing the importance of educating the Filipino migrant youth about their heritage, the Embassy organized at the start of this year its first ever monthly Philippine culture and history class for children of Filipino migrants that were born and raised in France.

Philippine Ambassador to France Maria Theresa Lazaro paid a visit during the fourth session of the programme held on 22 April. The students had shared with her some of their learnings from the previous sessions held. Their teacher, Ms. Rosemarie Chazelas, had just taught them that day about the symbols of the Philippine flag and how to sing the Philippine national anthem, “Lupang Hinirang.

Ambassador Lazaro said to the students, “I hope this programme has sparked an interest in all of you and has inspired you to continue learning more about our country’s rich heritage.”

The pilot batch of students for this six-session culture and history programme is composed of those who attend “Sunday school”/catechism at the Philippine Catholic Mission in the 16th arrondissement in Paris. Topics discussed in class are the essentials and basics of Philippine culture and history as well as other interesting facts about the country and its people.

At the end of the session, the Embassy donated to Ms. Chazelas and the class two bilingual (Philippine and French) books entitled, “Mythes et Legendes des Philippines” and “L’origine des Philippines” by Filipino author Marina Pottier-Quirolgico. These books are intended to encourage further the youth to seek more knowledge about Philippine culture. END
