PH Competitiveness Highlighted in Cairo Panel Discussion

CAIRO 10 May 2018 — Philippine economic programs to improve global competitiveness were highlighted in a panel discussion organized on 08 May by Global Trade Matters, an Egyptian private think tank. Philippine Ambassador to Egypt Leslie J. Baja, joined several other ambassadors in a one day forum entitled “Third Annual Global Trade Matters Global Competitiveness Summit – Ambassadors’ Edition.”
Ambassador Baja highlighted the Build Build Build program of the Duterte administration as one of the major thrusts of the Philippines in improving the economy and its global competitiveness. He also cited the recent reforms on taxation, reducing restrictions on foreign business activities, full enforcement of the Philippine competition law as among the measures being undertaken to lift the Philippines into an upper middle income country by 2019.
Participants at the forum were keen to compare Egypt’s own reforms and competitiveness with the countries represented in the event. Aside from Ambassador Baja, the ambassadors of Switzerland, Belgium, Finland, Mexico, Lithuania, Chile, Panama and India were also present. END
