PH Special Envoy to UNICEF Takes Oath

LONDON 16 May 2018 – The new Special Envoy of the President of the Philippines to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), Monica Prieto Teodoro, took her oath of office before Philippine Ambassador to the United Kingdom Antonio Lagdameo at a ceremony held at the Philippine Embassy in London last 23 April.

President Rodrigo Duterte appointed Teodoro as his special envoy to UNICEF in recognition of her expertise and reputation as a staunch child welfare advocate. Her official mandate includes, among others, advising the government on emerging developments in protection of Filipino children’s basic rights to health, education and protection by the state. 

Teodoro was previously a member of the Philippine House of Representatives for the First District of Tarlac. She was founder and chairperson of the House Committee on the Welfare of Children. She is married to Gilberto Teodoro, former secretary of the Department of National Defense, and they have one son. END
