PH Consul General Calls On Consulates General in HK
HONG KONG 26 March 2018 – Philippine Consul General Antonio A. Morales (right) and Austria’s Consul General Mrs. Monika Müller-Fembeck discuss the status of their respective trade and economic relations with Hong Kong on 13 March. There are about 200 Austrian companies in Hong Kong engaged mainly in heavy machineries and railways. The Austrian Consulate General has a Commercial Counselor and an Austrian Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong. There are about 800 Austrians registered and working in Hong Kong together with their families. They also discussed about contemporary arts and music, especially the Vienna Boys’ Choir. Consul General Morales is welcomed by the Consul General of Belgium Ms. Michèle Deneffe in Hong Kong. Both of them were assigned before in Beijing, China. Belgium’s trade and exports with China have increased specially on pharmaceutical & chemical products. There are about 90 Belgium companies in Hong Kong that are mainly engaged in shipping, banking and jewelry industry. Consul General Morales and Colombian Consul General Mr. Yobani Velàsquez Quintero discuss various important issues on trade, investments and export on 13 March. The Colombian Consul General notes that Colombia’s exports to HK are mostly agricultural products like coffee, bananas and potatoes. They also discussed the conditions of their nationals in Hong Kong, peace and order situation and conditions in HK’s jails and correctional institutions. (HK PCG Photo)
Consul General Morales is welcomed by Iran’s Consul General Mr. Mehdi Fakheri on 15 March. They discussed various topics particularly on trade and investments. Mr. Fakheri estimates there are 30-40 Iranian companies engaged in engineering and construction business in Hong Kong. Iran’s biggest sector and export is oil and natural gas. Iran is also engaged in car manufacturing industry, such as Nissan, Mazda, Mercedes Benz, Volkswagen which produces 150,000 cars a year, with Mr Fakheri noting that the tariff in cars in Hong Kong is cheaper than other countries. Consul General Morales meets with Italy’s Consul General Mr. Antonello De Riu on 15 March at the Italian Consulate General. They discussed various topics concerning about their respective historical background, political situation and other matters of common interest. Mr De Riu says there are an estimated number of 3,000 Italians living in Hong Kong. He also discussed about Italian arts and literature, exhibits, and Italian food and restaurants in Hong Kong. Consul General Morales is welcomed by the Consul General of the Netherlands Ms. Annemieke Ruigrok to her Consulate Chancery on 26 March. They discussed matters of common interest particularly on history, arts and culture. Mr Morales mentioned that Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte visited Hong Kong before proceeding to Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2018 just like President Rodrigo R. Duterte.
