NCCA Chair meets Executive Director of Canadian Language Museum
TORONTO 25 May 2018 — Chair of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and National Artist for Literature Virgilio S. Almario (3rd from left), Consul Edna May Grecia-Lazaro (leftmost) and Culture and Arts Officer of NCCA Alya Monina Rodriguez (rightmost) met with Executive Director of the Canadian Language Museum Elaine Gold (2nd from left) on 13 May, Sunday. The Canadian Language Museum was established in 2011 to promote an appreciation of all the languages spoken in Canada and of their role in the development of the country. Chair Almario commended the preserving and collecting records of indigenous language. He noted the importance of preserving intangible heritage like language and literature. Ms. Gold pointed out that “Tagalog is the fastest growing language in Canada.” She showed, for instance that in Winnipeg, it is the third largest spoken language while in Regina, Saskatchewan, it is the fourth largest. Chair Almario was also in Toronto to officially launch Sentro Rizal Toronto and participate in the Ugnayan Sa Canada Youth Forum, both held on 12 May. (Toronto PCG photo)
