THE HAGUE 05 June 2018 – Promoting Philippine Heritage is an important responsibility of our diplomatic missions abroad. On 30 May 2018, The Philippine Embassy in The Hague celebrated the National Heritage Month with donating a ten-volume set of CCP Encyclopedia of Philippine Art to the Asian Library of the University of Leiden (Leiden U).
In his brief remarks, Ambassador Jaime Victor B. Ledda said that the latest addition of the books focused on various forms of Philippine arts and ethnolinguistic groups will give all students, researchers and faculty of Leiden U and its visitors greater access to information about the Philippines, its history, people and society from the well-researched and expertly written materials produced by the Cultural Center of the Philippines and generously donated by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts.
The turnover of these books was preceded by a presentation given by University Library Director, Mr. Kurt de Belder on the history of the Asian Library which was opened by HRH Queen Maxima last September and its varied collections of manuscripts, including its heritage collections recognized by UNESCO; maps, use of digital technology that aim to provide the best materials and facilities for research and teaching as a major international knowledge hub on Asia. An added feature of this PH Heritage Month celebration at Leiden U was a “pop-up” exhibition of Philippine maps by the library’s Chief Curator, Andre Bouwman. END
