PH, Singapore Continue Cooperation on Migrant Workers Affairs

SINGAPORE 20 May 2018 – Ambassador Joseph M. Yap paid a courtesy call on the new Minister of Manpower of Singapore Josephine Teo on 23 May 2018. He expressed the Philippine government’s appreciation for the warm hospitality and protection that Filipino workers, both domestic workers and professionals, enjoy in Singapore.

Minister Teo expressed Singapore government’s recognition of the Philippines championing migrant rights issues during the Philippines ASEAN Chairmanship in 2017, particularly the ASEAN Consensus on Migrant Workers, and that Singapore will do its best to move the issue of labor migration forward during its ASEAN chairmanship this year.

Ambassador Yap and Minister Teo then had an exchange of views on various facets of Philippine – Singapore labor relations, as well as on how these relations can be further enhanced for our mutual benefit. END
