PH-Georgia Relations Discussed in Tbilisi Meeting

TBILISI 06 June 2018 – Philippine Ambassador to Turkey and non-resident Ambassador to Georgia Maria Rowena Mendoza Sanchez held a bilateral meeting with Georgian Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Giorgi Sharvashidze at the Foreign Affairs Ministry in Tbilisi on 25 May 2018. Ambassador Sanchez was joined by officials from the Philippine Embassy in Ankara and the Philippine Consulate General in Tbilisi represented by Consul General, a.h. Teimuraz Chichinadze.
In her introductory remarks, Ambassador Sanchez congratulated Deputy Minister Sharvashidze on the 100th anniversary of the first Democratic Republic of Georgia celebrated on 26 May 2018.
The meeting discussed how to further foster the relations between the two countries. Toward this end, both sides recognized the importance of the regular conduct of the established political consultations between the Philippines and Georgia. Both sides underscored the convening of the second consultation round in 2018 either in Manila or Tbilisi.
In addition, there were also exchanges on matters of mutual interest in the multilateral arena such as in ASEAN and the United Nations. Deputy Foreign Minister Sharvashidze informed Ambassador Sanchez on Georgia’s strong focus on improving relations with countries in Southeast Asia, including the Philippines. Georgia reiterated its readiness to accede to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC), and also has a request for an Observer status in the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA).
