HONG KONG 13 June 2018 – The Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong took part in the 60th Jubilee celebrations of the Li Cheng UK (LCU) Government Primary School, a prominent public school for Filipinos and other ethnic minorities, at the Yuen Long Theatre on 17 May 2018.
Hong Kong SAR Education Undersecretary Dr. Choi Yuk-lin, and Equal Opportunities Commission Prof. Alfred Chan Cheung-ming keynoted the Diamond Jubilee celebration.
During the event, Filipino student Abigail V. Aquino received an award for emerging as champion in the school’s Logo Design Competition (Senior Group).
The program was capped by a presentation of the musical “The Secret to Success” by the pupils and their parents.
The LCU was established in 1958 in Yuen Long, Kowloon District, which quickly gained reputation for quality education in the district. In 1984, it set up an Anglo-Chinese section with the aim of making the school freely accessible to ethnic minorities in Kowloon and the New Territories.
Today, LCU is a multi-cultural English-based government primary school with one of the most ethnically diverse primary schools in Hong Kong. The major ethnic groups that comprise the student population are from the Philippines, Pakistan, India and Nepal.
The school’s whole approach is to cater for student diversity. LCU adopts new initiatives to enhance the learning experiences of the children, to provide them a well-rounded education that values and supports the intellectual, physical, social and moral development of each child. END
