YANGON 14 June 2018 – The Philippine Embassy in Yangon, Myanmar, in cooperation with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, successfully conducted the Philippine Cultural Night at the Yangon National Theatre on 09 June 2018, featuring the Bayanihan Philippine National Folk Dance Company and urban pop artist Young JV.

Founded in 1957, the Bayanihan is the oldest dance company in the Philippines. It is renowned as the depository of almost all Filipino dances, dress and songs. In more than sixty years, Bayanihan has performed in over 700 cities world-wide, and has won many times over in various World Dance Competitions.

The Bayanihan performed several dances that portrayed the beauty of diversity in the Philippine culture and the multicultural influences of various tribes and eras, from the centuries of Spanish influence to ancient rituals and traditions in the Philippine countryside.

Guests from Myanmar and other ASEAN countries noticed that the Philippine dances and costumes were similar to their own traditional dances and costumes.

The Philippine Cultural Night was attended by around 500 guests composed of members of the Diplomatic Corps, students from various schools, and Filipinos in Myanmar. END
