Filipinos in Myanmar Learn How to Write Baybayin

YANGON 27 June 2018 – Filipinos based in Yangon, Myanmar learned how to read and write Baybayin during the seminar-workshop on Philippine indigenous culture titled “Kalayaan at Kalinangan” conducted by Dr. Edwin V. Antonio, Founder and President of Katutubo Exchange Philippines, at the Sule Shangri-La Hotel in Yangon on 23 June 2018.

In addition to Baybayin, participants also learned some indigenous words and games, while volunteers were able to try wearing indigenous attires.

Dr. Antonio also discussed about the different indigenous groups in the Philippines.

Katutubo Exchange Philippines is a volunteer organization, comprising volunteer youths and cultural workers, to promote indigenous culture and traditional arts heighten public awareness, and allow them to embrace the beauty of indigenous peoples while, at the same time, celebrate the oneness of the Filipino race.

The seminar-workshop was held as part of the Embassy’s activities in celebration of the 120th anniversary of proclamation of Philippine independence. END
