VIENNA 28 June 2018 – The Philippine Embassy and Permanent Mission to the United Nations in Vienna, Austria officially launched its Post ID during the celebration of the 120th anniversary of the proclamation of Philippine independence at Marriott Hotel in 11 June 2018.
The Post ID, the Embassy’s primer, defines its mission and vision, as it echoes the governent’s vision of a Philippines where everyone enjoys comfortable and secure lives by 2040, and works to contribute to the collective long-term vision and aspirations of its fellow Filipinos.
The Embassy’s vision to be the science diplomacy hub of the Philippine foreign service, and its mission to achieve freedom and development through science and innovation are contained within Post’s ID.
The Philippines and Austria has a long standing relationship anchored in mutual knowledge exchanges and scientific exploration: from SMS Novarra’s global scientific expedition which yielded the advancement of the flora and fauna disciplines, and futher understanding of various social archetypes; to the men of the cloth who established themselves as world-renowned pharmacists and researchers; to the friendship that blossomed between Dr. Jose Rizal and Ferdinand Blumentritt, borne out of their thirst for knowledge about each other’s culture.
In recent history, the first Ambassador and Permanent Resident of the Philippines to Vienna, the late Foreign Affairs Secretary Domingo L. Siazon Jr., was himself a scientist diplomat who represented the country’s interest in the scientific and international organizations based in Vienna. His background in physics was instrumental in encouraging our use of nuclear science and technology for peaceful uses.
The Embassy will build on the gains of these historical and diplomatic relations, as it continues to sustain this cooperation with its host country. It will continue to utilize its most important resource – the Filipino communities in Austria, Croatia, Slovakia and Slovenia, whose profiles vary from scientists to accountants to workers in the service sector, all of whom have contributed to the well-being and dynamism of the international organizations in Vienna.
Finally, the Embassy will continue to initiate the forging of partnerships, and the creation of synergies that will help mold the future Filipino be a stakeholder and an agent of change in the Philippine society.
Through Post’s ID, the Embassy hopes to spread its mission-vision to Filipinos in Austria, and its visiting delegates from the capital. END
