CHICAGO 28 June 2018 – Seeking to enhance relations between the City of Chicago and the Philippines, Consul General Gina A. Jamoralin met with Chicago Vice Mayor and Alderman Brendan Reilly at the Aldermanic Offices at the City Hall on 19 June 2018.

Alderman Reilly represents the 42nd Ward, which covers the current location of the Philippine Consulate General in Chicago, and boasts of nearly 60 percent of the city’s economic activity with around 90,000 residents and more than 40,000 business licenses. He has been in office since 2007, and was named Vice Mayor of Chicago in 2015.

Chicago has significant historical and cultural links with the Philippines’ capital city of Manila and the country’s famous summer capital of Baguio City, thanks to the works of Architect Daniel Burnham. It is also the site of a monument to the Philippine national hero Dr. Jose P. Rizal, erected at Margate Park in 1999.

Hoping to build on these ties, Consul General Jamoralin discussed ways of promoting the Filipino-American community’s greater involvement and participation in the city’s social, economic, civic and humanitarian endeavors.

Consul General Jamoralin expressed appreciation to Vice Mayor and Alderman Reilly for possible collaboration in promoting closer and more productive cooperation with the third largest city in the United States. END
