Assistant Secretary Herrera-Lim briefed the audience—composed of business leaders, civil society organization representatives, human resource practitioners, and other stakeholders—on the history of ASEAN, AICHR, and the role that the business community plays in improving the lives of ASEAN peoples, by practicing inclusive business through the United Nations Principles on Business and Human Rights and the Sustainable Development Goals.
The Assistant Secretary emphasized the need to focus on vulnerable sectors such as women, persons with disabilities, and indigenous people, as well as the importance of businesses always keeping a close watch on every component of its value chains to ensure that no human rights abuses are committed at any step of the process.
Organized by Enterprise Asia, the Summit is a platform to hear the voices of leading individuals from the different realms of the sustainability landscape share real-life experiences to seek forward-thinking solutions to complex societal issues.
