PRAGUE 02 July 2018 – The Philippine Embassy in the Czech Republic led by Chargé d’affaires, a.i. Juan E. Dayang Jr., joined Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Governor Nestor A. Espenilla Jr., Czech National Bank (CNB) Governor Jiri Rusnok, and other Czech officials during the ceremonial unveiling of a bust of Dr. Jose P. Rizal created by Filipino sculptor Jose Giroy, at the CNB foyer on 25 June 2018.
Part of the site of the CNB used to be the Blue Star Hotel, where Jose Rizal and his friend Maxmimo Viola stayed for two days in May 1887.
The installation of the Rizal bust was the brainchild of CNB Vice Governor Vladimir Tomšik, in collaboration with Czech Ambassador to the Philippines Jaroslav Olsa Jr.
The CNB is included in the Rizal Heritage Trail in Prague, a project, initiated and coordinated by Chargé d’Affaires, Dayang. The Czech National Museum, Charles University, Prague Castle, and other famous landmarks in Prague are also included in the Heritage Trail.
“The honor given to Rizal in the Czech Republic is an honor for the Philippines and the Filipino people and a tribute to the Philippine-Czech relations. The personal diplomacy through the friendship of Czech National Bank Vice Governor Vladimir Tomšik, and Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Governor Nestor A. Espenilla, Jr. inspired this project,” Chargé d’Affaires Dayang said. END
