SAN FRANCISCO 03 July 2018 – Sixteen established Filipino artists, each with his/her own brand of mastery and aesthetics, banded together to form the Viajeros Filipino Artist Collective to showcase Philippine culture to the world, and to highlight the excellence of the Filipino artist.

The Exhibit entitled “Unang Handog” held its grand opening at the Kalayaan Hall of the Philippine Center on 26 June 2018, where some of the artists were present to interact with the Filipino Community who attended the event.

The Viajeros, whose Manifesto aligns with the Spark*Connect*Empower movement, signed the Spark partnership agreement, joining fifty other partners in promoting Philippine culture and heritage through their art, with the hope that it will move Filipinos to get to know their roots and reach out to the larger Community in curiosity and fraternity.

In his welcome remarks, Consul General Henry S. Bensurto Jr. noted the unifying force of art, and encouraged the attendees to reach out to the artists to find out their story and their influences, and to allow them to put themselves in the shoes of a fellow kababayan in order to see what it means to be a Filipino through his or her eyes.

The Consul General hoped the exhibit will “create a conversation among the participants, allowing them to share memories evoked by the beautiful images depicted in the paintings, and sharing these stories with the youth.”

Believing that art is a powerful uniting force, the Viajeros wish to establish inter-racial relationships through art based on mutual acceptance and respect.

“Unang Handog” will remain in the Kalayaan Hall at 447 Sutter Street, San Francisco until 6 July 2018.  END
