DOST Scholars from Myanmar Learn About the Philippines

YANGON 03 July 2018 – The Philippine Embassy in Yangon, Myanmar conducted a Pre-Departure Orientation Seminar for Department of Science and Technology–Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) Scholars who will be studying at the University of the Philippines-Los Baños, at the Philippine Embassy Sentro Rizal on 28 June 2018.

Charge d’Affaires, a.i. Stephanie Alexis A. Cruz and Third Secretary and Vice Consul Jan Michael B. Gomez discussed various topics about the Philippines that would help the scholars prepare for their stay in the Philippines, and enable them to make the necessary adjustments prior to leaving Myanmar. Topics discussed included Philippine history, geography, culture, and do’s and don’ts.

The participants were students who qualified for the DOST-SEI’s scholarship offering to citizens of Cambodia, Lao PDR and Myanmar, as an offshoot of the Ninth Informal ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Science and Technology in October 2016 in Siem Reap, Cambodia, with the objective of promoting human resource development in engineering and sciences for sustainable socio-economic development of the ASEAN region.
