BRUSSELS 05 July 2018 – The ASEAN Brussels Committee, composed of the ASEAN member embassies in Brussels, held the ASEAN Summer Fair 2018 at the premises of the Indonesian Embassy in Brussels on 30 June 2018. The Indonesian Embassy is the current Chair of the ABC.

This event was initially proposed by Indonesia in 2017, and aims to bring the ASEAN diaspora in Belgium closer together by introducing and sharing each member country’s culture not only among its members but with the Belgian and expatriate community in Brussels.

Guests were entertained with diverse cultural performances from several ASEAN member countries.

Philippine Ambassador to Belgium Eduardo José A. de Vega’s rendition of La Bamba, Quizás, Quizás and My Sharona had the crowd dancing and cheering with energy and was one of the highlights of the day.

The halo-halo topped with Luneta Ube Ice Cream of the Bahay Kubo Restaurant in Brussels turned out to be one of the crowd favorites, as people tried to cool themselves during the sweltering summer heat.

Each member country had its own booth colorfully decorated with souvenir items and displays of their tourist attractions, arts and crafts, while the aroma of flavorful ASEAN dishes filled the air. Attractive raffle prizes contributed by the ASEAN diplomatic missions added excitement to the event. The proceeds of the raffle draw will be donated to the Salvation Army.

Ambassador de Vega was asked to deliver the closing remarks for the ASEAN Brussels Committee. He thanked the Embassy of Indonesia for graciously hosting the ASEAN Summer Fair, and congratulated everyone for their cooperation and active participation that made the ASEAN Summer Fest 2018 a success. He also announced that from then on, the ABC will be organizing this event on a yearly basis. END
