BANGKOK 05 July 2018 – Dr. Ramon “Montet” Acoymo, noted Filipino tenor and Associate Professor at the University of the Philippines College of Music, conducted a musical workshop on 13-14 June 2018 at the Philippine Embassy in Bangkok, upon the invitation of Ambassador to Thailand Mary Jo A. Bernardo-Aragon. Members of the Filipino Community in Bangkok registered for the workshop.

Professor Acoymo shared the basic techniques of singing, the dimensions of classical singing, and general information on voice pedagogy.

What was inspiring, however, to participants was Professor Acoymo’s exhortation to find and express one’s true voice, and to avoid comparing oneself to others, or merely copying popular vocalists. He elaborated that every voice is unique like a fingerprint, and that no one should be afraid to make mistakes or sound off-key in trying to develop one’s best vocal expression.

The words of Professor Acoymo were so inspiring that one youthful participant, who is profoundly deaf in one ear, declared he will not be shy about singing anymore.

Participants from the Filipino Community were mostly members from various choral groups of different organizations or schools or churches, such as the ABAC Choir, AITIS Choir, EIS Choir, Ruamrudee Church Choir, CCO Choir, and the Echopelle Choir. Some foreign participants were from the International Women’s Club.

Professor Acoymo also provided musical entertainment for the Philippine National Day Reception at the Shangri-La Hotel on 12 June 2018. END
