HONG KONG 06 July 2018The Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong participated at the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce (HKGCC) Belt and Road Cocktail Reception at the HKGCC’s Chambre Theatre in Admiralty, Hong Kong’s Central District on 22 June 2018.

The reception is one of a series of private sector events held in the run-up to the territory’s Belt and Road Summit, the official annual conference and exhibition tied to China’s ambitious Belt and Road Initiative, which promotes economic co-operation among participating countries along the Silk Road Economic Belt and 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, including the Philippines.

Originally called “One Belt, One Road,” the Belt and Road Initiative will link the Chinese mainland to Europe, and will cover over 63 percent of the world’s population in more than 70 territories across Asia, Europe and Africa. This will cover 30 percent the world's Gross Domestic Product, and 35 percent of world trade.

The event, jointly organized by HKGCC’s China Committee and Asia and Africa Committee, allowed almost 200 members and guests to enjoy high-level networking. The reception was aimed at promoting contacts and exchange views between members and representatives of countries and regions along the Belt and Road routes in China, Asia, and Africa.

Among the guests were officials from the China’s Central Liaison Office, the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), Consuls General and representatives from 19 Asian and African countries, and business representatives from over 20 provinces and cities in the Mainland. END
