HONG KONG 06 July 2018The Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong participated in the inaugural ceremony organized by Hong Kong Airlines to launch its daily flights between Hong Kong and Manila, at the Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) on 01 June 2018.

Philippine Consul in Hong Kong Paulo V. Saret joined Hong Kong Airlines Vice President Tang King Shing at a ceremony together with officials from the Hong Kong Airport Authority.

The daily service to Manila adds nearly 2,500 seats every week on the popular route, to allow the airline to meet the increasing demand of travelers from the Philippines.

“Travel between the Philippines and Hong Kong has steadily grown over the years. Filipinos represent the largest ethnic minority residing here in Hong Kong. Hong Kong Airlines aspires to become the airline of choice for Filipinos and travelers form around the world looking to travel between Hong Kong and Manila,” Vice President Tang said in remarks.

“Our ever-expanding network now consists of nearly 40 destinations across Asia Pacific and North America, and it continues to grow,” the airline executive said, adding that there were over 900,000 arrivals from the Philippines to Hong Kong in 2017.

“The Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong welcomes business development opportunities which benefit our country. This will also usher in much closer relations between the peoples of the Philippines and Hong Kong,” Consul Saret remarked.

With the new service, “we hope that more people from Hong Kong, this time, will visit the Philippines,” Consul Saret said, adding that Filipinos working in Hong Kong will also welcome the new service because it will widen their choice of airlines and hopefully lead to lower fares due to increased competition.
