HONG KONG 06 July 2018 – The Philippines sent a strong representation to the launch of what promises to be the primary food industry expo covering China’s ambitious transcontinental Belt and Road Initiative, at the AsiaWorld Expo in Lantau Island, Hong Kong on 27-29 June 2018.
The Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong and five Philippine food companies—the Monde Nissin Corp. (including M.Y. San Corp.), SL Agritech Corp., Marikina Food Corporation, Trans Ocean Food Products Inc., and RPO Fine Foods Corp. (Nut’n Else)—joined the three-day First Belt and Road International Food Expo.
The companies promoted biscuits, noodles, rice, fruits, snack food, seafood products, and nuts.
A Plus Consultant Ltd., a Hong Kong-based company, also participated to promote Philippine-made goods such as coconut juice and spices.

Atienza, and Vice Consul Fatima G. Quintin in visiting the Philippine booths on opening day, 27 June 2018.
Organized by FMC Corporation, the first one-stop Belt and Road international food expo aims to be the first food trade, food industry investment, and business co-operation platform to the world food industry and related professional service.
The Belt and Road Initiative covers over 63 percent of the world’s population in more than 70 territories.
The Agrifood and Trade Summit was a forum organized in conjunction with the Food Expo that combined state policy, academic perspective, and business cooperation.
Undersecretary La Viña spoke on Philippine agricultural trade and investment landscape, where he highlighted how Philippine agriculture is a record breaking sector and encourage participants, among others, to invest in the Philippines’ agribusiness.
The Summit also had other trade and agriculture officials from eight other countries that gave presentations/speeches.
Around 80 exhibitors from all over the world, particularly from Belt and Road countries, joined the BRIFE.
Vice Consul John Paul B. Iñigo of the Philippine Trade and Investment Center in Guangzhou, and Attaché Charlene A. Beriana and translator Olive Chong-Yu of the Consulate General answered queries at the Consulate booth. END
