HONG KONG 06 July 2018 – The Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong led more than 500 active members of the Filipino Community in holding on 24 June 2018 the first-ever community-wide ball to officially close month-long festivities commemorating the 120th anniversary of the proclamation of Philippine independence.
In his speech, Consul General Antonio A. Morales thanked the participants of the 2018 Kalayaan Ball at Foo Lum Palace in North Point, underscoring the importance of hard work, dedication and unity, and urged the leading members of the Filipino Community to embody these exemplary traits of the Filipinos.
The culminating event was held mainly to thank those who supported, volunteered, and performed during the successful staging of the Kapangyawan Friendship Festival held on 10 June 2018 at Chater Road, Central.
Members of the Filipino Community have held events on every Sunday of June, and also participated in events organized by the Consulate, such as the traditional breakfast “Pinoy Almusal” at the Consulate Chancery on 12 June, and the diplomatic reception at Conrad Hong Kong Hotel on 19 June 2018.
After his speech, Consul General Morales handed certificates of appreciation to individuals and organizations that contributed to the successful staging of the 2018 Kapangyawan Friendship Festival, an annual tradition for the 220,000-strong Filipino community in Hong Kong.
Guests were treated with traditional Filipino multi-course luncheon while listening to live band performance by Hong Kong-based Filipino musicians.
The event was organized by the Consulate General in Hong Kong in partnership with Global Alliance, Philippine Association Hong Kong, and Philippine Alliance. END
