PH Embassy in USA Now Accepting Applications for 2018 FYLPRO Immersion Program

WASHINGTON, D.C. 09 July 2018 – The Filipino Young Leaders Program (FYLPRO)—a joint initiative of the Philippine Embassy and Consulates General in the United States, the Ayala Foundation, Inc. (AFI), and the FYLPRO non-profit organization—is pleased to launch the 2018 Immersion Program, which will be held in the Philippines on 18 to 23 November 2018. 

FYLPRO is now accepting applications for young Filipinos and Filipino-Americans in the U.S. who are interested in working with various stakeholders in their communities for the strengthening of Philippines-U.S. ties, and the advancement of Philippine interests and advocacies in the U.S. Selected delegates will be provided with the opportunity to interact with Philippine Government officials and leaders in the fields of business, arts and culture, and civil society.

In 2012, the Philippine Embassy in Washington, D.C., under the leadership of former Ambassador to the United States Jose L. Cuisia Jr., founded FYLPRO after recognizing the need for the younger generation to be more involved in the development of the Filipino Community in the U.S.

Since then and with continued competitive, carefully reviewed, and vetted application process, 60 outstanding leaders have graduated from the program—creating a robust network of talent, abilities, and ideals.

Leaders between the ages of 25 and 40 are encouraged to apply. Applicants must demonstrate leadership skills within their school, community, workplace, or other areas of involvement. S/He must have potential or demonstrate active involvement in the Filipino Community, or in issues or activities that align with the Filipino-American Community or the Philippines.

“FYLPRO has built an impressive roster of alumni with a network of distinguished research and achievements in political advocacy initiatives, cultural and tourism programs, social entrepreneurship activities, innovations in governance and education, heritage projects and voter awareness drives,” Ambassador to the U.S. Jose Manuel G. Romualdez said in a statement. 

“We remain committed to encouraging more diverse and dynamic engagements with the next generation of Filipino-Americans in the United States to further strengthen Philippines-US ties, advance mutual interests, and attain common goals,” the Ambassador added.

FYLPRO President Dondi Leonidas Quintans shares Ambassador Romualdez’s sentiments, vowing to help in further equipping young Filipino-Americans with a useful network and tools.

“The opportunities and lessons the FYLPRO network can provide will help leaders create a positive and lasting impact in the Philippines and the United States,” Quintans stated. “FYLPRO and its partners are designing the blueprint for a stronger bridge between our two countries.
