PH Embassy in The Hague Hosts Lecture on the PH Economy, ASEAN

THE HAGUE 09 July 2018 – The Philippine Embassy in The Hague organized a lecture on "The Philippines and ASEAN: Taking Flight for Inclusive Growth by Professor Alvin Ang, PhD of Ateneo de Manila University on 28 June.
The event is part of the Embassy’s continuing efforts towards its promotion of awareness about the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and developments in the Philippine economy among Dutch stakeholders mainly in the business sector, and Filipinos living and working in the Netherlands.
Dr. Ang’s 40-minute lecture gave the audience highlights on ASEAN since its creation in 1968; a review of the three pillars of the ASEAN Community with focus on the four sub-pillars of the ASEAN Economic Community; what has been accomplished since 2015 by ASEAN toward integration of goods, services, investments and skilled labor, including ASEAN-certified recognition of professionals such as engineering, accountancy, nursing and dentist; and ASEAN initiatives for inclusivity under the ASEAN Framework for Equitable Economic Development, among others.
Dr. Ang highlighted also the country’s average growth of 6.2 percent in the last 30 quarters as a consumption-led and services-dominated economy; the manufacturing sector leading Philippine economic growth topped by electronic products; and the current push toward more infrastructure, as Business Process Outsourcing revenues overtake remittances by Filipinos overseas in the country’s economic growth.
