PH Ambassador to Iran Hosts Lunch Meeting for ASEAN Tehran Committee

TEHRAN 09 July 2018 – Philippine Ambassador to Iran Wilfredo C. Santos recently hosted a friendly lunch for the ASEAN Tehran Committee (ATC) members and their spouses at his official residence in Tehran, to discuss the upcoming activities of the ATC.
The ASEAN Ambassadors to Iran and their spouses savored traditional Filipino dishes like pancit bihon, chicken adobo, ground beef menudo, fried vegetable rolls and lumpiang shanghai, bagoong rice, corn soup, and assorted pastries including suman. Philippine tropical fruit drinks were likewise served during the lunch, where guests were entertained to a medley of Filipino songs.
The lunch at the Philippine Ambassador’s residence served also to welcome to the ATC the new Vietnamese Ambassador to Iran Nguyen Manh Hien, who arrived recently in Tehran to assume his post.
During the informal meeting that followed the lunch, the ASEAN Ambassadors discussed the preparations for the celebration of ASEAN Day on 08 August 2018. This event is intended to highlight the importance of ASEAN and increase awareness and appreciation of the regional organization to Iran and its people.
To achieve this purpose, the ATC plans to organize a reception where members of the diplomatic corps, the business community, cultural organizations, and ranking officials of the Iranian government will be invited to grace the occasion. The event will also mark the turnover of chairmanship of the ATC to the Ambassador of Brunei Darrusalam.
The ATC is composed of the Ambassadors of Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam to Iran. Committee members serve as Chair on a rotational basis every six months. The ATC is supported by a working group composed of the deputies of the ASEAN Ambassadors. END
