TORONTO 10 July 2018– The inaugural Bata to Batapreneur Business Fair was held at the Northwood Community Center in Toronto, Canada on 07 July 2018.
The event provided the participating batapreneurs or child entrepreneurs, mostly Filipinos and Filipino-Canadians, with the opportunity to showcase their products and services to the public and give them practical business experience.
The event was organized by social entrepreneurs Janet Lim and Christine Santos through their non-profit organization, b2Bpreneur, in collaboration with the Philippine Chamber of Commerce-Toronto (PCCT) and the Philippine Consulate General in Toronto.
PCCT Chairperson Steve Paggao said that the event aims to promote financial literacy and entrepreneurial skills among young entrepreneurs. He added that the business fair will help “build the next generations of empowered entrepreneurs with a heart,” and allow children to learn business skills that will help them achieve their goals in life.
The Consulate’s Senior Trade Commissioner Ma. Roseni Alvero reminded the batapreneurs of the seven M’s that they could keep in mind to achieve success: mindset, mastery, mentoring, machinery, money, market, and models.
In her remarks, Consul General in Toronto Rosalita S. Prospero stated that entrepreneurship makes innovation, economic growth, and positive change in the community possible. She said that the business fair gives children a venue to develop their entrepreneurial skills, build their confidence, and enhance their ability to create and develop ideas. She also encouraged the participating batapreneurs to learn and have fun in the event.
About 52 child entrepreneurs, aged six to 18 years old, participated in the business fair. Products ranging from food, t-shirts, and gadgets were showcased in the event. Guest speakers also shared their business and professional experiences to the young participants.
Judges awarded the following winners in five categories: Most Creative Business: Artsy Glow Collection (Gloriane Baricuatro); Most Popular Business: A Bubble (Angelo Salvador and Lance Laserna); Most Profitable Business: Playsense (Rome Ramos and Enzo Ramos); Most Promising Business: The Feel Good Tool Kit (Isabella Cortes); and Batapreneur Business of the Year 2018: Limon (Marcus Justice Uy).
