PH Cybersecurity Efforts, Need for Global Cooperation Highlighted at Moscow Conference

MOSCOW 12 July 2018 — Information and Communications Technology Assistant Secretary Allan S. Cabanlong led the Philippine delegation to the International Cybersecurity Congress (ICC) at the World Trade Center in Moscow, Russia.

Assistant Secretary Cabanlong was a featured speaker in the panel discussion “Trust, Privacy, and Security: Key Challenges of the Digital World” which was moderated by Ms. Natalya Kasperskaya, co-founder of leading anti-virus company Kaspersky Lab, and was held on 05-06 July 2018.

In his speech, the DICT Cybersecurity Bureau Head of the Department of Information and Communication Technology (DICT) highlighted the Philippine Government’s efforts in protecting the country’s IT infrastructure.

“Now, more than ever, IT security is necessary to protect businesses from unintended or unauthorized access, change or destruction. No country is exempt, the Philippines share the same anxiety (about) protecting its businesses and supply chains,” Assistant Secretary Cabanlong said.

“The need for international collaboration is imperative if any state is to survive the economic impact brought by today’s information security threats,” the Assistant Secretary added.

Assistant Secretary Cabanlong also discussed the Philippines’ Data Privacy Act and Cybercrime Prevention Act, which are both implemented by the DICT, and the importance of striking a balance between confidentiality and protection in cyberspace.

The ICC was organized by Sberbank of Russia with the support of the Roscongress Foundation, ANO Digital Economy, and the Association of Russian Banks. Over 1,000 industry experts attended the two-day event. END
