PH Consulate in Belgrade Opens For Filipinos in Serbia

BELGRADE 18 July 2018 – After a two year wait, the Philippine Consulate in Belgrade, Serbia was officially opened on 26 June 2018, with new Honorary Consul Dragijana Petrovic and officers from the Philippine Embassy in Budapest present during the occasion. From June 2016 until June 2018, consular functions were performed by the Philippine Embassy in Budapest, Hungary while the search for a new Honorary Consul was in motion.

Consul Jose L. Garcia III represented Ambassador to Hungary Maria Fe T. Pangilinan, and conveyed the warm welcome and congratulations of the Embassy to the Honorary Consul and her staff.

Consul General assured of the Embassy’s support in the Consulate’s efforts to strengthen Philippine-Serbian bilateral relations and assist Filipino nationals.

In return, Honorary Consul Petrovic spoke about her strong interest and commitment in helping expand bilateral relations in trade, education, and sports. She also assured Filipinos in Serbia of her assistance as she considers herself a part of the “Filipino family.”

Honorary Consul Petrovic received her Consular Commission from Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter S. Cayetano in July 2017, and received her exequatur from the Serbian government in March 2018.

The grant of the Exequatur officially recognized her role as Philippine representative to Serbia, and paved the way for the opening and operation of the Consulate.

Honorary Consul Petrovic is a prominent member of the Serbian business community, and has years of experience working for the Serbian government. She brings with her knowledge, experience, and strong connections in both the private and public sector of Serbia.

The opening of the Honorary Consulate was attended by friends and family members of Honorary Consul Petrovic, and members of the Filipino Community.

As of 2018, there are 76 Filipinos who are residing and working in Serbia, majority of whom are married to Serbians and have established their families there.
