18 December 2013 - The Philippine Consulate General participated in the 11th Annual Simbang Gabi and the Parade of Parols (Lanterns) held on December 15 at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels located in downtown Los Angeles.
Most Reverend Jose H. Gomez, Archishop of Los Angeles, led the Eucharistic celebration with the auxiliary bishops and clerics of Los Angeles. This year’s event was held under the auspices of the Filipino Ministry of San Pedro Region in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, with the theme “Lord Jesus, Son of Mary, Mold Us Into One Family of New Evangelizers” (Panginoong Hesus, Anak ni Maria, Hubugin mo Kaming Maging Isang Pamilya nang Bagong Tagapagpahayag ng Mabuting Balita).
The Consulate General joined the different parish ministries, Catholic associations, and civic and non-governmental organizations in the Parade of Parols (star lanterns) that heralded the Eucharistic celebration. The Consulate General’s Christmas Lantern or parol attracted a significant number of parishioners, because it carries the Philippine flag colors and symbols.
The parade was a joint activity of all officers and staff during their team-building exercise held last month. END
