Deepening of PH-Slovenia Ties Discussed as PH Ambassador Presents Credentials

VIENNA 20 July 2018 – Ambassador to Austria Maria Cleofe R. Natividad expressed her desire to strengthen bilateral relations between the Philippines and Slovenia, as she presents her letter of credence as non-resident Ambassador to Slovenia to President Borut Pahor on 12 July 2018. The ceremony was held at the Presidential Palace in the Slovene capital of Ljubljana.
After the presentation, Ambassador Natividad and President Pahor held a brief dialogue, where the Slovene President expressed his desire to meet with President Rodrigo Duterte in the near future.
The call also touched upon the possibility of further expanding Philippines-Slovenia bilateral relations in the areas of political, economic, and technical cooperation, as well as in education, people-to-people exchange, and tourism. Slovenia likewise expressed the importance of cooperation on international issues.
A day prior to the presentation ceremony on 11 July 2018, Ambassador Natividad also called on Ambassador Robert Basej, Head of Diplomatic Protocol in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters, to present an open copy of her credentials.
Following the presentation of credentials, a reception was held at the Grand Hotel Union in downtown Ljubljana. In attendance were representatives of the Slovene government, namely Minister for Culture Anton Peršak and State Minister for Economic Development and Technology Aleš Cantarutti; prominent members of the Slovene business community led by the President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Slovenia Boštjan Gorjup; and members of the Filipino Community in Slovenia.
During the reception, Ambassador Natividad also administered the oath of office to Philippine Honorary Consul to Slovenia Srečko Debelak, renewing his position for another three-year term.
Aside from Slovenia, Ambassador Natividad and the Philippine Embassy in Vienna also exercises jurisdiction over Croatia and the Slovak Republic. END
