VIENNA 20 July 2018 – The Philippine Embassy in Vienna observed the 40th National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week through a musical concert by Imusicapella, a chamber choir from Imus, Cavite.

Members of the Filipino Community and working group counterparts from other missions attended of the intimate event.

With the celebration of music, however, comes social responsibility and awareness. The songs Imusicapella sang were dedicated to people with disabilities, and were in support of disability prevention and rehabilitation.

The songs that Imusicapella sang were also products of singers, songwriters, and composers who were inspired by musicians who, at various points of their lives or since birth, had a form of disability—proving that talent transcends physicality, and inspiration has no set qualifications.

Ambassador to Austria Maria Cleofe R. Natividad underscored the importance of an inclusive society, one that embraces individuality and uniqueness.

“The short concert not only reminded us of this, but its objectives were to motivate and inspire us to be determined and tenacious, just as the people with disabilities are who continue to prove themselves capable and just as productive as any member of the society,” Ambassador Natividad said.

The Embassy Chorale also rendered songs during the event, and had an impromptu and friendly sing-off with Imusicapella. In the end, and in an act of solidarity and patriotism, both groups sang the National Anthem together.

Imusicapella had just come from a Grand Prix victory in Varna, Bulgaria, which secured them a spot in the prestigious European Grand Prix for Choral Singing in 2019.

Prior to their arrival in Vienna, the choral group held a series of concerts in France and Germany. END
