Tourism Investment Mission from Fujian, China Explores Opportunities in Palawan

XIAMEN 20 July 2018 – Philippine Consul General to Xiamen Julius Caesar A. Flores spearheaded the First Fujian Tourism Investment Mission to Puerto Princesa City and Palawan Province from 20 to 25 June 2018, as part of the Consulate General’s economic diplomacy thrusts for 2018.

Puerto Princesa City Mayor Rudy Bayron and Governor Jose Chaves Alvarez welcomed the members of the Mission, who were briefed of the tourism industry and business environment in the country’s “Last Frontier.”

Pursued within the framework of the “Build Build Build” infrastructure program of the Duterte administration and the Provincial and City Tourism Master Development Plans, the members of the Mission received comprehensive briefing by local authorities on the tourism investment opportunities, and made ocular visits of selected hotels and sites in Puerto Princesa City and Roxas, San Vicente and El Nido towns.

The Mission comprised selected firms from Xiamen, Fujian and other areas in southern China engaged in the various aspects of the tourism industry that recognize the importance of the Philippines as a fast growing destination for the Chinese market, and are keen in expanding their presence in the country.

Some sidelights of the Mission included a tour of the Puerto Princesa Underground River System, UNESCO World Heritage Site and New7 Wonder of the World, and island hopping in El Nido.

The Mission’s visit to Palawan was made possible under the auspices of the Puerto Princesa City Tourism Council, which worked in tandem with the Puerto Princesa Council Tourism Office, Palawan Provincial Tourism Office, and the private sector through the Phil Travel Merchants and Events Specialists Company.
