PH Consulate General in LA Attends Opening of Lynda Reyes’s Art Exhibition

LOS ANGELES 23 July 2018 – The Philippine Consulate General in Los Angeles graced the opening reception of an art exhibit dubbed Solo Exhibition/Oil & Watercolor by Lynda A.N. Reyes in Burbank, California on 06 July 2018.

Born and raised in the Philippines, Reyes is an accomplished watercolor artist who maintains her studio and gallery in Glendale, California. She obtained her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree major in painting from the College of the Holy Spirt in Philippines, and took up graduate studies in Philippine art history at the University of the Philippines. 

Reyes is also an art historian, author and educator, and has served as juror for a national exhibit sponsored by the San Fernando Valley Arts and Cultural Center in Tarzana, California. She has taught Art History in several colleges in California, and was a resource person for the visual arts of Glendale Unified School District.

Reyes is likewise known in the international academia for her book “The Textiles of Southern Philippines,” and for her published studies on Philippine ethnic art. 

The exhibit featured watercolor and oil paintings that have already been presented in various museum exhibits in California, Wisconsin, Louisiana, Pennsylvania and Montana, and in national juried shows in Berkely, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Burbank, Sherman Oaks and other major cities in California. The paintings have also been exhibited in international shows in Kentucky, Canada, Maryland, Colorado and New York.  According to Reyes, these paintings have given her much recognition.

Aside from the several awards she received for her oil and watercolor paintings, Reyes’s artworks have been published in the book “Splash 14: Light and Color”.

The exhibit had been featured in the Entertainment page of the Los Angeles Times, a leading daily newspaper in southern California, which enjoys the fourth largest circulation among United States broadsheets.
