MANAMA 23 July 2018 — The Philippine Embassy in Manama, Bahrain held its “Usapang SSS” Forum on the Social Security System on 06 July 2018 at the Embassy lobby.
Ambassador to Bahrain Alfonso A. Ver opened the program using SSS tagline “Buti Na Lang May SSS,” to remind our Filipino migrant workers of the assistance given by SSS, and the importance of putting their hard earned money to good use.
SSS Senior Representative in Bahrain Edre G. Bayno explained their program’s coverage and policies, as well as the long-term benefits of having individual contributions such as receipt of monthly pension, death and burial assistance and survivor’s pension.
Bayno also introduced the SSS Flexi-fund Program exclusive for OFWs, a voluntary, individual account scheme similar to a provident fund that allows OFWs to earn more from SSS’ short-term fixed income investments.
The highlight of the seminar was SSS’s on-going loan restructuring program, which allows waiving of members’ penalties on unpaid loans. Bayno urged the attendees to avail themselves of this program, as it will soon end on 01 October 2018.
Members with outstanding loans may choose to pay in full the unpaid loans with interest within one month or may settle the previous principal amount and interest in installments, with option to pay from one year up to five years and with interest at the rate of three percent per annum.
A total of about 100 attendees came to the Forum composed of members of the Filipino Community and Embassy officials. The Forum was streamed live on Facebook via the Embassy page, and the Filipino Community’s Tambayan ni Kabayan sa Bahrain Facebook page.
